Spring Term 2

Week 1:

Welcome back to our lovely children and families. We are now entering Spring 2 and we are in for a very busy half term!

To kick us off with an exciting week we had a day of Balance Bikes! The children really enjoyed learning to balance on the bikes, having races and getting used to the bikes. Then, they practiced riding around a track, under obstacles and over ramps!

We also learnt more about the season we are currently in- winter! The children enjoyed making snowflakes and learning about some animals who live in cold places.

We also enjoyed learning about Chinese New Year and we have turned our home corner into a Chinese restaurant. We practiced eating with chopsticks, painting some cherry blossom trees and watching lion dancing!

Weeks 3 & 4:

We have begun to learn all about animals! Our topic began with a visit from Animals UK- we met lots of different animals and the children behaved beautifully.

We then looked at animals who live in cold places- reading the story ‘Lost and Found’. This linked to us then learning all about Antarctica and what we would need to wear, the weather and again, what kind of animals live here! We enjoyed spending time in the Antarctica tuff tray and experimenting with ice! After this, we read ‘Handa’s Surprise- again, looking at the animals who live in Africa. We then spent some time comparing the two environments, comparing clothing, weather and animals.

Weeks 5 & 6:

We finished our animal learning just as Spring began! We went on a Spring walk- we noticed it was raining! We found some signs of Spring, such as daffodils, new leaves on the trees and buds beginning to grow. We learnt about the Easter story and began to think about Easter time. The children enjoyed taking part in lots of Spring activities, especially our Spring tray and our Easter egg hunt! The children also began to practice some sentence writing, they are very proud of their writing achievements and this is something we will continue to practice in the Summer term.
