Welcome to Year 5
Our Year in Action
Spring 1 Term in Year 5
Spring 1 has been a busy and productive half term for Year 5 with lots to celebrate. Here are just a few of the highlights!
Bikeability was a great success, despite the freezing cold weather with most children achieving their Level 1 (on the playground) and Level 2 (on the road) awards.
The children were very creative in their Road Safety sessions, creating posters, leaflets, rhymes and even a rap to help them remember the rules for crossing the road safely.
Our Year 5 Catholicism Assembly based on Catholic Social Teaching was enjoyed by the whole school. Catholic Social Teaching is at the heart of how we live our lives and how our faith informs all that we do.
Many certificates have been awarded: Stars of the Week, Star Writers, Star Readers, Virtue awards, Pen Licences and so many Dojos!
And, of course, there's been some fantastic learning, including producing some beautiful ‘Earth and space’ art work!
Spring 2 Term in Year 5
Year 5 have had a fantastic Spring 2 Term and here are a few of the highlights!
As part of our World War II topic, we visited Lotherton Hall.
We were lucky enough to have some cricket training this half term, which was so enjoyable that we decided to carry it on in our PE lessons.
World Book Day was fantastic! We enjoyed sharing books with Year 2 children, which was lovely as well as having a fantastic author visit with Susannah Lloyd.
Our Good Shepherd fundraising was a great success, with our Break the Rules Day in 5CL, PJ Day in 5SS, our Big Lent Walk and non-uniform days all raising a fantastic amount for those less fortunate than ourselves.
We had our annual Lenten Workshop for parents this half term too which was well attended and a lovely way to help us on our Lenten journey towards our Easter celebrations.
As usual we celebrated a huge number of achievements including: Stars of the Week, Star Writers, Star Readers, Virtue awards, Pen Licences and so many Dojos!
There's also been some fantastic learning, including producing some beautiful ‘Earth and space’ art work!
Summer 1
There has been some fantastic learning in Year 5 this half term!
In English, the children have been reading Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and are very much looking forward to the Chocolate Workshop we have planned for next half term!
In maths, we've been focusing on decimals and lots of fun was had making human number lines and racing to find our best decimal race times.
In science, we've been dissecting flowers and observing eggs to explore the male and female parts of flowers and the life cycles of different animals.
In art, we made some 3D installations with Mrs Mokri, which was great fun!
And, we finally finished making our air raid shelters too (we fell behind last half term!) though our topic has now changed from World War II to Chocolate!
