W/C 26th November 2018                                                        Issue 8

This coming Sunday is the 1st Sunday of Advent and we would like to see as many of our families as possible at Church as we start our preparations for Christmas.

On Monday 3rd December we will start to send the travelling Cribs home. When it is your child’s turn please take a few minutes to look at the Crib together, light the candle and say a prayer together before returning the Crib the following day. The Year 5 Advent workshops will take place next Tuesday for any year 5 parents who can attend.

Last week a team of our children took part in the athletics competition. It was a very close and competitive competition but St. Augustine’s came 1st and qualified for the Leeds North East area finals on 11th December. Well done team!

Well done to all the y3/4/5 & 6 children that braved the cold and competed in a city wide cross country event at Cardinal Heenan yesterday. They were magnificent! We await to hear where we were placed overall, however it was a great team effort with some outstanding individual achievements.

Some of our parents have asked about a Christmas Fair in school. There will be a meeting for any parents that would like to try and organise this. Please come along to the meeting this Wednesday 28th November at 2.30pm if you feel you can help in any way. The summer fair was a great success and it would be lovely if we could organise something for Christmas.

We have managed to secure some additional funding to help refurbish the y1 and y6 toilets. The work will begin in January and take up to 5 weeks. There will be some disruption over that time as the entrances to y1 and 6 will be effected, however plans are in place to minimise this. We will send out details nearer Christmas to the families that will be effected.

As the weather gets colder and wetter could I ask you to make sure that your child has suitable footwear and a warm coat in school along with a hat and gloves if possible.
